Finnieston Crane - Single

about

Finnieston Crane - Sitting by the side of the River Clyde in Glasgow, the Finnieston Crane has seen many changes over the years.......

lyrics

Old shipyard crane stands looming dark against a hazy sky,
Towers over it's surroundings watching over passers by,
It's gears have rusted from sleep through many years,
People who worked in it's shadow breaking blood sweat & tears

The silent river now harbours birds and pleasure boats,
The mighty ships of the past no longer tied to it's banks with fraying ropes,
In the breeze if you listen closely you'll hear a long lost sound,
Once a bustling place full of voices laughter working all around

I'm 10 years old me and my sisters are playing beneath it's rusting gaze,
Grandad watches over us from a distance as we run and chase,
All that remained of those days was rubble and dirt
Now wildflowers grow where men gave the sweat from their shirt.

The rivers horizon has changed through the many years,
Hotels, flats and concert halls now it's only careers,
The bridges that span this river bring a new lease of life
The Finnieston Crane stands tall and proud beneath Glaswegian skies.
